A8 Eastbound Cathcart St to Cartsdyke Roundabout
As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will this March resurface 1kilometre of the A8 Eastbound between Cathcart Street and the Cartsdyke Roundabout in Greenock.
Works will require a blend of lane closures and contraflow traffic management in order to protect the health and safety of our workers and to minimise disruption where possible.
Scotland TranServ’s Project Lead Designer, David Montgomery said:
“Scotland TranServ has been working in consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key local stakeholders for a number of months in the planning of this complex programme of works. We have been closely monitoring this rapidly deteriorating stretch of the A8 trunk road, and the local community has raised a number of concerns. This project is therefore of the utmost importance.”
Works will begin under a weekend contraflow, with further traffic management required to complete the project during the following 7 days.
Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Design Engineer added:
“This is a busy part of our network. Resurfacing the carriageway, while reducing the impact on commuters and businesses is a challenge. Working with community representatives and our specialist traffic modelling contractors, we have carefully planned this important project. Significant delays are however being forecast, with drivers urged to allow plenty of extra time for commuting, or where possible to seek alternative travel arrangements.”
In order to complete this project as safely and efficiently as possible the following traffic management will be implemented:
- 8pm Friday 15th to 6am Monday 18th March – Weekend contraflow between Cathcart Street and the A8 junction with the B788 (Morrisons)
- 8pm to 6am each night, from Monday 18th to Monday 25th March – Overnight Eastbound closure of the A8, with single lane closed Westbound. Local diversion in place for Eastbound traffic
- 6am to 8pm each day, from Monday 18th to Monday 25th March – One lane closed Eastbound. Westbound traffic will remain unaffected during this time
Drivers are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys, and/or seek alternative travel arrangements. Motorists should check live trunk road information on trafficscotland.org or follow @trafficscotland on Twitter.
