Battling the Beast from the East

1. GRitter

It has been one of the harshest winters in years, with our Operatives, Control Room staff, Operations and Network teams all working flat out to keep South West Scotland’s trunk roads moving.

Not only did we deal with the South West Trunk Roads, but we also provided mutual aid to the M80 and M74 DBFOs as well as three Local Authorities, helping to get them moving again in times of crisis.

Our snowblower has been in action, and our unimog rescued jack-knifed HGVs to ensure that essential food supplies reached the supermarket shelves. Our spreaders have covered thousands of miles and kept our vital trunk routes moving using thousands of tonnes of salt.

Behind the scenes there was an amazing effort from our winter team, who went out in 4x4s in the middle of the night to collect our frontline staff, ensuring they got to work. On one occasion, digging the vehicle out of the snow three times, while another TranServ group also helped to get a stranded ambulance moving again.
