Final Gantry Reinstatement for 2018
Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will complete its gantry replacement programme for the year this weekend.
Reinstatement of the M8 Eastbound structure between Junctions 12 and 11 will take place during consecutive overnights on Friday and Saturday.
Gordon Gibney, Scotland TranServ’s said:
“We’ve worked with our contractors, local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders throughout the year in the scheduling of these important works. During the last year we’ve removed and reinstated seven such M8 gantries, with the final structure being returned to its place over the M8 tomorrow.
“These structures, which can weigh up to 20 tonnes are removed, shot blasted, stripped of ageing material and restructured with new energy efficient LED lighting all within a very short radius of their original location. Working with the same expert contractors on this project has helped us to deliver this programme safely, efficiently and with as little disruption as possible.”
It will be necessary to implement an overnight closure of the M8 Eastbound over the following times:
- 8pm Friday 30th November to 6am Saturday 1st December
- 8pm Saturday 1st to 6am Sunday 2nd December
Alaister Walker Scotland TranServ’s Senior Structures Technician added:
“Many of these gantries had sat in place for over four decades without ever having been removed. All their old signage has now been removed and replaced with new energy efficient LED signs, delivering a 70% energy saving on their predecessors.”
