As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will shortly complete more than £3.2Million of investment into the A78.

A further million pounds of investment is also being planned for the important North Ayrshire/Inverclyde trunk road in the months ahead.

With the completion of 2.5km of resurfacing at Ashcraig House between Skelmorlie and Largs, resurfacing works at Boydston Farm near Ardrossan and the Rail Bridge to A737 Flyover resurfacing outside Kilwinning, Scotland TranServ will complete its immediate programme, with over 11km resurfaced.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Road Design Engineer said:

“While there has been a significant investment to improve the A78 over the last few months, there will be no rest for the Scotland TranServ team as we work with communities to identify areas of the carriageway requiring treatment and we develop resurfacing schemes to deliver tangible, long-term benefits to this strategic trunk road.

“The delivery of this programme is testament to our ongoing consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key local stakeholders in scheduling our works to have limited impact on communities, and to plan any disruption out with the peak holiday season and important events in their local calendar wherever possible.”

On behalf of Transport Scotland, investment planned for the months ahead, includes:

• Boydston Farm – Later this month, resurfacing of 820m of carriageway will be carried out under daytime weekday convoy. This £118k project will improve the road surface between the Rowan Tree Restaurant and Montfode Roundabout outside Ardrossan
• Rail Bridge to A737 Flyover – This £325k programme will resurface 3km of the A78 carriageway outside Kilwinning. Works are currently forecast to take place in mid-June, under a proposed weekend closure of the trunk road

This investment programme into the A78 is among a series of such programmes being carried out by Scotland TranServ across South West Scotland, supporting the economic growth and development of the area.
