A723 High Mast Replacement
Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will shortly begin a 10 week programme of high mast lighting replacement works on the A723 between Motherwell and Hamilton.
In order to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement some hard shoulder and carriageway closures during this time. A total of four overnight closures of the trunk road will also be required towards the end of the programme.
Alaister Walker, Scotland TranServ’s Senior Structures Technician said:
“We’ve been working with local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders to carefully plan these works for minimal impact on commuters and local businesses. As part of Transport Scotland’s LED replacement programme, we will replace 14 ageing high mast lights with modern, energy efficient equivalents.
“We will first need to install new reinforced concrete foundations and hard standings for these 30 metre masts. While the majority of works will be carried out under single lane closures, it will also be necessary to carry out four complete carriageway closures at the end of May. We will remind local drivers of these closures nearer the time.”
Drivers are advised to allow some additional time for their journeys. Live trunk road updates are available on trafficscotland.org or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
