A77 Maybole Road to Bankfield Roundabout Resurfacing

Scotland Transerv, on behalf of Transport Scotland will next week deliver the overnight resurfacing of the A77 between the Maybole Road Junction and the Bankfield Roundabout, near Ayr.

In order to keep disruption to a minimum, Scotland TranServ will complete the programme through a short series of overnight works. The project will follow strict physical distancing protocols in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance. In association with Transport Scotland, we have identified this resurfacing project as an essential maintenance scheme, vital to maintaining the integrity and safety of the trunk road network.

Gordon Coppard, Scotland TranServ’s Network Area Manager for Ayrshire said:

“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for playing their part in protecting the country’s key workers.

“We have implemented many new working practices across our own workforce and those of our contractors and suppliers as we work towards the future delivery of our maintenance programmes. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.

“This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is vital that we resurface this 640m stretch in order to maintain road safety. Works will be carried out overnight in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time.”

To complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, overnight closures of the trunk road will be implemented during the following times:

  • 8pm on Wednesday 29th to 6am on Thursday 30th July
  • 8pm on Thursday 30th to 6am on Friday 31st July
  • 8pm on Friday 31st to 6am on Sat 1stAugust

Ahead of this, our Operations team intend this week delivering a programme of overnight drainage works in advance of this resurfacing. These advance works will be delivered under a series of four way lights and closures as scheduled:

  • 8pm on Wednesday 22nd to 6am on Thursday 23rd July – four way lights
  • 8pm on Thursday 23rd to 6am on Friday 24th July – four way lights
  • 8pm on Friday 24th to 6am on Saturday 25th July – four way lights
  • 8pm on Monday 27th to 6am on Tuesday 28th July - overnight closure
  • 8pm on Tuesday 28th to 6am on Wed 29th July - overnight closure

Drivers are advised to allow around 10 to 15 minutes time to negotiate the five and a half mile diversion route. Special arrangements have been made for emergency service vehicles, however no additional measures will be made for windfarm traffic or abnormal loads. Traffic management will only be installed once vehicle volumes are sufficiently low.
