A77 Meiklewood Combined Programme

As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will next week deliver a combined surfacing and cyclic maintenance programme on the A77 Southbound between Meiklewood Interchange and Dutch House Roundabout.

The 0.7km surfacing scheme will be delivered during a combination of daytime lane and overnight closures of the southbound carriageway, with additional cyclic maintenance of the trunk road verges also delivered between Monday the 3rd and early morning of Wednesday the 5th of August.

The works will be delivered following strict physical distancing protocols in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance. In association with Transport Scotland, we have identified these projects as essential maintenance schemes, vital to maintaining the integrity and safety of the trunk road network.

Gordon Coppard, Scotland TranServ’s Area Network Manager said:

“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for playing their part in protecting the country’s key workers.

“We have implemented many new working practices across our own workforce and those of our contractors and suppliers as we work towards the future delivery of our maintenance programmes. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.

“This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is vital that we complete these works in order to maintain road safety. Works will be carried out overnight in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time.”

To complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a series of overnight closures of the A77 Southbound trunk road in this area. Closures will be implemented during the following times:

  • Monday 3rd August – Daytime Lane closure (0930 – 1530hrs)
  • Monday 3rd August – Night time total closure (2000 – 0600hrs)
  • Tuesday 4th August – Night time total closure (2000 – 0600hrs)

Essential cyclic maintenance of the A77 in this area will be carried out under the daytime lane closure in order to minimise further disruption.

Local diversions will be in place throughout this short series of overnight closures. Special arrangements will be made for emergency service vehicles. No additional measures are being made for windfarm traffic or abnormal loads.

Drivers are advised to allow some extra time for their journeys. Live trunk road information can be found by visiting trafficscotland.org or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
