A77 Overmills Bridge Improvements – Scotland Transerv

A77 Overmills Bridge Improvements

09 May 2014

Scotland TranServ, working on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out a programme of overnight works on the Overmills Bridge on the A77.

With the road surface coming towards the end of its operational life, the Scotland TranServ team will improve the quality of the surface and waterproof the bridge deck. This will significantly reduce the need for further reactive maintenance.

Project Engineer, Ian Butler said:

“This is a significant project that will deliver long-term, tangible benefits for drivers in this part of Ayrshire. This is an important crossing over the River Ayr, and one that is a vital economic artery connecting Glasgow with the ferry ports at Loch Ryan. These works are essential to maintain the bridge safety and for the continued operation of the A77.”

Work will be carried out overnight in order to reduce disruption to the travelling public: It will commence from 14th May 2014 and last for around 2½ weeks. Works will take place from 20.00 to 05.00 each night. The road surface will be temporarily removed from the bridge deck during the Works, and therefore it will be necessary to cordon off areas of the deck throughout the day. However, two way traffic operation will continue as normal out with the night time working period.

Mr Butler continued:

“We are also aware that many of the local community live within close proximity of this section of road and accordingly, we will be planning our works to ensure the least amount of noise disruption. We have already liaised with local property owners regarding the works, and will continue to keep them up to date throughout.”
