Half Million Pounds Springholm Resurfacing Programme
As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will carry out the phased resurfacing of 800m of the A75 at Springholm.
This £570k programme of work will require two weekend road closures, with additional overnight working in between. The first weekend closure will be from Friday the 11th until Monday 14th of October, continuing overnights through the following week and concluding with a second weekend closure from Friday 18th to Monday 21st of October.
Scotland TranServ has approved an innovative mobile technology which will allow us to recycle the base layers of the old trunk road, mixing it with concrete and bitumen to form the foundation of the new road through the village. With the alternative being the transportation of materials to a specialist facility in Middlesbrough, over the course of the project this will save approximately 9000 lorry miles, the equivalent of driving from Dumfries to Darwin.
Anthony Chambers, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead on the scheme said:
“Scotland TranServ is extremely focussed on the recycling of waste materials across our trunk road resurfacing programme. We identified this mobile recycling facility for use on this specialist project. The location has a number of challenges in the materials used in the original construction of the road.
“We have been working in consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key stakeholders in the planning of this project. In order to protect the safety of our workers and the travelling public, it is essential that we close the trunk road while the project is completed. By working at weekends and overnight, we aim to reduce disruption to commuters and businesses using this route every day.”
To minimise the disruption to the community, commuters and businesses while completing this essential resurfacing programme, it will be necessary to close the A75 trunk road at this location during the following times:
- 7pm on Thursday 10th until 6am on Friday 11th October, preparatory works
- 7pm on Friday the 11th until 6am on Monday the 14th of October
- 7pm to 6am overnights from Monday 14th until Thursday 17th of October
- 7pm on Friday the 18th until 6am on Monday the 21st of October
Local diversions will be in place throughout this short programme of work. Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles. No additional arrangements have been made for windfarm traffic.
