Role

To support the engineering and site management team with engineering control and in the supervision of specialist contractors.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with standard company HSE procedures and work instructions
  • Provide accurate setting out and dimensional control and as built survey information
  • Ensure design information is accurate and available to enable all construction activities to proceed efficiently
  • Maintain daily diary for recording all necessary engineering and production information
  • Ensure that design information is accurately translated and implemented on site both in terms of dimensional and quality control
  • Assist in providing technical and quality control records in line with BMS procedures
  • Identify potential risk and opportunities and escalate these as appropriate
  • Carry out allocated tasks so as to comply with BMS and Group Minimum Commercial Expectations
  • Support commercial team by providing clear records of site and/or design changes
  • Assist in ensuring that client information is timely and accurate
  • Monitor and record progress on a daily basis and provide information to senior engineers for onward short-term planning
  • Assist with short-term planning and co-ordination activities, monitor progress on a daily basis and provide feedback on resource and output levels
  • Produce, check and regularly review activity specific documentation and ensure that this is complied with throughout the operation
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm
  • Support the delivery of Scotland TranServ Sustainability activities

Personal Qualities and Experience

The following qualities/experience are essential:

Some previous relevant experience in civil engineering is preferred. Membership of a relevant professional body and/or working towards a relevant professional qualification is desirable, such as ICE. A BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering is desirable. A valid CSCS card is required.

Essential:

  • Enthusiasm and results focus, together with an ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in administration, writing, numeracy, IT and MS Office
  • Attention to detail
  • Financial acumen
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative

Desirable:

  • Awareness of the construction process
  • Knowledge of sub-contracting principles
  • Knowledge of effective negotiation skills with both internal and external customers
