Kingston Bridge West Street Slip Road Refurbishment
As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road maintenance programme, Scotland TranServ will deliver a series of refurbishment projects for the Kingston Bridge complex over the next few weeks.
Works to complete the 430m resurfacing of the West Street off-slip will resume overnight on Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th of July, having earlier been postponed in March under Scottish Government COVID-19 guidelines. This essential project will now resume under Scotland TranServ’s strict physical distancing protocols.
Follow-up works to replace thirteen ageing bridge joints will be carried out during a series of overnight closures between Tuesday the 7th and Sunday the 12th of July.
Peter McCann, Scotland TranServ’s Major Bridges Manager said:
“The health and safety of our workers, our contractors and the travelling public is of paramount importance to Scotland TranServ. Many new working practices have been implemented across our own workforce and those of our contractors and suppliers as we work towards the future delivery of our programmes. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.
“This is normally among the busiest sections of the M8, and as such is widely used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is important that we deliver this essential refurbishment programme in order to maintain road safety. Traffic volumes currently remain low, in line with government advice, and the programme can therefore be carried out safely and with minimal disruption.
“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for protecting the country’s key workers.”
In order to complete this programme of work as quickly and safely as possible, a series of overnight closures of the Kingston Bridge West Street Off Slip will be required, including:
- 10pm Monday 6th until 6am Tuesday 7th July – resurfacing of West Street off slip
- 10pm Tuesday 7th until 6am Wednesday 8th July – resurfacing of West Street off slip
Works to install the thirteen associated bridge joints will follow each overnight from 10pm until 6am between Tuesday 7th and Sunday 12th of July.
Traffic management will only be implemented once traffic volumes are sufficiently low. Local diversions will be in place through each overnight. Special arrangements have been made for emergency service vehicle access.
Further overnight works will also take place to resurface 0.6km of the Kingston Bridge West Street on-slip and install nineteen associated bridge joints between Friday the 24th of July and Saturday the 1st of August.
During each programme of work drivers are advised to allow some additional time for their journeys. Motorists can find live trunk road information by visiting trafficscotland.org or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
