M74 Barrier Replacement Programme
As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ is replacing 9km of M74 central reservation barrier between junctions 7 and 8.
In order to complete this 16 week programme of work as quickly and safely as possible, we are implementing a series of overnight lane closures, from Sunday to Thursday each week.
Laura Gray, Scotland TranServ’s Planned Maintenance Manager said:
“These barriers are reaching the end of their maintainable life, and therefore need to be completely replaced. Scotland TranServ has already completed a significant programme of barrier replacements along the M8, working with our specialist contractor, Highway Barrier Solutions over the last couple of years, we’ve already delivered more than £12 million of investment. Altogether we have replaced approximately 47 kilometres of M8 barrier as part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme.”
Works begin on Sunday 28th of July, with the programme currently scheduled for completion in mid-November. Depending on traffic flows, traffic management will be implemented during the following times:
- 8pm each evening until 6am the following morning, from Sunday to Thursday
Traffic management will be implemented in phases as HBS, our specialist contractor, makes progress. We are proposing the overnight closure of two lanes southbound with traffic running on the hard shoulder, and an offside lane closure only on the northbound carriageway. This is expected to alternate as works continue.
