M74 Port Eglington Overnight Resurfacing

As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will this weekend carry out the essential overnight resurfacing of the M74 Southbound at Port Eglington Viaduct.

The resurfacing is necessary ahead of the installation of 19 expansion joint modules between both the Northbound and Southbound carriageways.

The health and safety of our workers and subcontractors is of the utmost importance to Scotland TranServ. Our workers, and those working on our behalf, will follow strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government advice, as part of our steps to return safely to work.

Peter McCann, Scotland TranServ’s Major Bridges Manager said:

“This is normally among the busiest sections of our network, and as such is widely used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is important that we deliver this essential refurbishment programme in order to maintain road safety. Traffic volumes currently remain low, in line with government advice, and the programme can therefore be carried out safely and with minimal disruption.

“The health and safety of our workers, our contractors and the travelling public is of paramount importance to Scotland TranServ. Many new working practices have been implemented across our own workforce and those of our contractors and suppliers as we work towards the future delivery of our programmes. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.

“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for helping to protect the country’s key workers.”

In order to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to close the M74 Southbound during the following times:

  • 10pm on Sunday 5th until 6am on Monday 6th of July

Further overnight closures will be required between 10pm and 6am each evening for the installation of the bridge joint modules during the dates below:

  • Monday 13th until Monday 20th July – M74 Northbound Junction 1
  • Monday 20th until Sunday 26th July – M74 Southbound Junction 1

Local diversions will be in place throughout each overnight closure. Emergency service access will be maintained throughout. No additional provision will be made for abnormal load or windfarm traffic. Drivers are advised to allow some extra time for their journeys in order to travel the short diversion.
