M74 Wellburn Overbridge
As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will this month deliver a combined patching and bridge joint replacement programme on the M74 Junction 10 Wellburn Overbridge, near Lesmahagow.
In order to deliver the programme as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a series of overnight closures of the overbridge between the adjoining roundabouts. The main M74 carriageway will remain unaffected by these works.
The project will follow strict physical distancing protocols in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance. In association with Transport Scotland, we have identified these projects as essential maintenance schemes, vital to maintaining the integrity and safety of the trunk road network.
Brian Laurie, Scotland TranServ’s Network Bridge Manager said:
“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for playing their part in protecting the country’s key workers.
“We have implemented many new working practices across our own workforce and those of our contractors and suppliers as we work towards the future delivery of our maintenance programmes. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.
“This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is vital that we complete these works in order to maintain road safety. Works will be carried out overnight in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time.”
To complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, overnight closures of the trunk road will be implemented during the following times:
- 9pm on Wednesday 29th of July until 6am on Thursday 30th of July, surface patching of Wellburn Overbridge
- 9pm on Thursday 30th of July until 6am on Friday 31st of July, bridge joint installation
- 9pm on Friday 31st of July until 6am on Saturday 1st of August, bridge joint installation
Local diversions will be in place throughout this short programme of overnight working. Drivers are advised to allow some additional time for their journeys. Special arrangements will be made for emergency service vehicles. Motorists can find live trunk road information by visiting trafficscotland.org or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
