As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will this month replace the drainage system on the M8 Westbound at Junction 27, near Renfrew Road.

In order to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a series of daytime lane one closures and overnight total closures of the westbound carriageway.

It is intended to implement the works on the motorway from 8pm on Friday the 25^th until 6am on Monday the 28^th of October. However, if traffic flows are exceptionally heavy or other incidents have occurred elsewhere on the M8 these timings will be reviewed in line will the circumstances.

Liam Browne, Scotland TranServ’s Area Network Manager said:

“This essential programme of work will help tackle historical flooding issues in this section of carriageway. Scotland TranServ has consulted widely on this programme of work, engaging with local authorities, emergency services, Glasgow Airport and other key stakeholders, to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum whilst we complete this important project.

“Works have been scheduled out with the busy holiday periods to ensure we reduce the impact on the nearby Airport. The scheme will deliver tangible, long-term benefits to the thousands of commuters and businesses using this extremely busy part of the motorway network every day.”

Depending on vehicle volumes, the drainage replacement programme will be carried out under the following traffic management arrangement:

• 8pm Friday 25^th until 6am Saturday 26^th – Total overnight closure of M8
  Junction 27 Westbound
• 6am until 8pm Saturday 26^th – Closure of lane one only, M8 Junction 27 Westbound
• 8pm Saturday 26^th until 6am Sunday 27^th - Total overnight closure of M8
  Junction 27 Westbound
• 6am until 8pm Sunday 27^th – Closure of lane one only, M8 Junction 27 Westbound
• 8pm Sunday 27^th until 6am Monday 28^th - Total overnight closure of M8
  Junction 27 Westbound

Local diversions will be in place throughout the total overnight closures of the westbound carriageway. Special arrangements will be made for emergency service vehicles. No additional arrangements will be made for windfarm traffic.
