Overnight barrier replacement M8 Jct 28-30
Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will replace the M8 motorway barriers between Junction 28 and 30 starting on Sunday 3rd of September until mid-October.
The trunk road management company has already replaced 13 kilometres of barriers in the last 18 months.
Laura Gray, Scotland TranServ’s Deputy Planned Maintenance Manager said:
“We’ve been working closely with Glasgow Airport, Police Scotland and local authorities to specifically schedule this significant programme of work for minimal impact on local commuters, businesses and air passengers. Works will be carried out overnight, with traffic management only
implemented once vehicle flow is satisfactorily low.”
The project, which will last for several weeks, will also avoid working on the busier Friday and Saturday overnights. It will run from 8pm each evening to 6am the following morning from Sunday to Thursday.
In order to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible Scotland TranServ will implement a full closure of the westbound carriageway with an offside lane closed in the eastbound direction. Mid way through the works the traffic management will alter to a full closure of the eastbound carriageway with an offside lane closure westbound.
“Already, Scotland TranServ has invested nearly £3million to replace M8 barriers that are reaching the end of their maintainable life. We’re working hard to resurface several kilometres of the motorway, and to improve lighting with new energy efficient LED lamps. In order to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible we often need to implement traffic management. Working overnight helps to reduce the impact on the communities and businesses while we carry out these important projects.”
