White Cart Viaduct Resurfacing
Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will next week begin resurfacing of the M8 Whitecart Viaduct, near Glasgow Airport.
The programme of overnight resurfacing will be carried out between the evening of Wednesday 29th of July and the early morning of Saturday the 1st of August. The project will follow strict physical distancing protocols in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance. In association with Transport Scotland, we have identified these projects as essential maintenance schemes, vital to maintaining the integrity and safety of the trunk road network.
Peter McCann, Scotland TranServ’s Major Bridges Manager said:
“This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is vital that we complete these works in order to maintain road safety. Works will be carried out overnight in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time.
“We have implemented many new working practices across our own workforce and those of our contractors and suppliers as we work towards the future delivery of our maintenance programmes. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.
“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for playing their part in protecting the country’s key workers.”
To complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a series of overnight closures of the trunk road in this area. Closures will be implemented during the following times:
- 10pm Wednesday 29th until 6am Thursday 30th of July – Eastbound works
- 10pm Thursday 30th until 6am Friday 31st of July – Westbound works
- 10pm Friday 31st July until 6am Saturday 1st of August – Westbound works
Local diversions will be in place throughout this short series of overnight closures. Special arrangements will be made for emergency service vehicles. No additional measures are being made for windfarm traffic or abnormal loads.
Drivers are advised to allow some extra time for their journeys. Live trunk road information can be found by visiting trafficscotland.org or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
