Improved Signage for A726 East Kilbride – Scotland Transerv

Improved Signage for A726 East Kilbride

As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic road safety programme, Scotland TranServ will replace signage on the A726 relating to the Eaglesham Road and West Mains Road Roundabouts.

The new signs will combine the messaging of the group of existing signage, reducing the clutter of signage in the area.

Bruce Wade, Scotland TranServ’s Senior Site Engineer said:

“This short programme of works will reduce the existing clutter of signage and replace it with a single sign on each approach, which more clearly combines the messaging. This will help to reduce driver confusion and therefore help to improve road safety in this very busy part of our network in East Kilbride. We are actively working across South West Scotland to reduce the number of signs, posts and objects on the trunk road verges to make our trunk roads more passively safe.

“It is necessary that we install these new signs in advance of the upcoming installation of a pedestrian crossing on the A726 Queensway. In order to reduce disruption the new controlled crossing will be installed in conjunction with a major waterproofing project by our Bridges colleagues. Scotland TranServ has been working in consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key stakeholders to carefully plan these works to minimise the impact on the community and businesses.”

In order to deliver these works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a series of overnight and dayshift closures. These will include:

  • Nearside lane closures between Monday 24th and Friday 28th June
  • Total overnight closure of the A726 at this location between 8pm Thursday 27th and 6am Friday 28th June

Local diversions will be in place overnight during times of road closure. Drivers are asked to allow some extra time for their journeys. Live trunk road updates are available by visiting, or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
