Slow Down Near Roadworks
Scotland TranServ is urging motorists to slow down in and around roadworks.
As Roadworker Safety Week approaches, the South West Scotland trunk road management company is calling on drivers to respect our working environment.
Works on the M8 between junctions 10 and 12, and the highmast replacement programme on the A723 between Hamilton and Motherwell have been identified as areas where vehicles are breaching the speed restrictions.
Moira Johnstone, Scotland TranServ’s Bridges Delivery Manager said:
“It is vital for the safety of our workers, and for the travelling public that drivers respect the reduced speed limit through these working zones. Last year alone 68% of our workers experienced a near miss on site. The majority of our works are carried out overnight in order to reduce disruption, and while it may not look as though someone is working, our operatives, engineers and environment team may be working on other parts of the site. Speed limits are not only there to protect our employees, they are also there to protect road users.”
