A76 Resurfacing Between Skerrington & Dettingen Roundabouts

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out resurfacing of a 620m section of the A76 between the Skerrington Roundabout and Dettingen Roundabout outside Cumnock, starting at the end of May.

In order to complete this £340k project as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a weekend closure of the trunk road.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Roads Design Engineer said:

“Following consultation with the local authority, emergency services and stakeholders, we have planned these works for the end of May into early June. Works have been scheduled for this time to reduce the impact on local commuters and businesses using the A76, and outwith peak holiday periods.

“We will use the crack and seat system which breaks down the existing road structure and uses this as the construction material for the base of the road. This helps to significantly reduce the volume of wastage and lorry miles used in the wider project. We have used this successfully on the A75 and A76 previously.”

The resurfacing of this stretch of carriageway will be carried out under a weekend closure during the following times:

  • 8pm on Friday the 31st May until 6am on Monday the 3rd of June

Local diversions will be in place throughout these works. Drivers are advised to allow some extra time for their journeys. For live trunk road information motorists can visit trafficscotland.org or follow @trafficscotland on Twitter.
