M74 Barrier Replacement Programme
Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will shortly complete the latest phase of its 9km central reservation barrier replacement programme on the M74 between junctions 7 and 8.
In order to complete this latest phase as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement full overnight closures of the Southbound carriageway each night from Sunday 15th September until Thursday 3rd October. The works will take place Sunday to Thursday each week. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday overnights.
Laura Gray, Scotland TranServ’s Planned Maintenance Manager said:
“Scotland TranServ has been working in consultation with South Lanarkshire Council, emergency services and key stakeholders to carefully schedule the programme, reducing the impact on the thousands of commuters and businesses using the route every day.
“We are delivering an extensive programme of barrier replacement, removing the existing structure which is reaching the end of its maintainable life, and replacing it with a modern equivalent. We have already completed similar programme on the M8, keeping disruption to a minimum.”
Traffic management will be in place during the following times:
- 8pm until 6am each overnight, Sunday to Thursday, from Sunday 15th September until Thursday 3rd October
- Monday 16th September, traffic management will be in place Northbound for cyclic maintenance works
- Sunday 22nd September, works will also switch to M74 Northbound to accommodate drainage replacement programme
Local diversions will be in place throughout the short programme, with access maintained for emergency service vehicles. Live trunk road information is available by visiting trafficscotland.org, or following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
