Ensuring safer journeys in all seasons

Scotland TranServ’s winter service runs from 1 October until 15 May each year. We stockpile up to 21,000 tonnes of salt in preparation for the winter period, soon to be stored in our facility at Polmadie depot. Our frontline gritting fleet of 35 vehicles fitted with snow ploughs can each disperse up to 18 tonnes of salt; resulting in quicker application and removing the requirement for return visits.

The primary aim of the winter service is to work with Multi Agency Response Teams (MART) to ensure the safe movement of road users and to minimise delays and disruption due to snow and ice conditions. Our experienced team of winter experts utilise real time weather forecasts, computerised ice detection systems and overnight patrols to deploy our services accordingly.

A focus on journey time reliability

With a strong focus on continuous improvement, Scotland TranServ aims to keep the west of Scotland’s roads moving. Our approach to working in partnership with Traffic Scotland enables the provision of real time traffic updates on incidents and events to motorists travelling on roads within the south west network whilst improving safety and efficiencies and reducing disruption.

The Network Control Centre based at our Head Office in Polmadie, Glasgow works seamlessly with Traffic Scotland to enable the effective communication of alternative route advice and credible, accurate and timely travel information for motorists to make informed decisions when planning their journeys.
