With a footprint that spans over 600km of south west Scotland’s roads network Scotland TranServ has invested over £3m in winter plant since commencement of the contract in April 2013. It is this investment along with our drive to provide an optimum winter service on behalf of our client that demonstrates our commitment to improving our service each year.
Our high tech fleet comprises of 41 vehicles, including 15 super spreaders, which each weigh over 15 tonnes and can spread twice as much salt in one pass; reducing the need for reapplication and in turn reducing our carbon footprint.
The primary aim of our winter service is to work in partnership with the Multi Agency Response Team (MART) to ensure the safe movement of road users and to minimise disruption due to snow and ice conditions.
Scotland TranServ’s experienced winter resilience team monitor conditions 24/7 from our Network Control Centre in Glasgow; utilising detailed weather forecast information and 33 weather stations out on the network to deploy our winter fleet in advance of predicted low temperatures or adverse winter weather conditions.
Over 120 staff are dedicated to providing our winter service each year. Highly trained operatives work in 24 hour rotational shifts and can cover over 2,300 miles each night; patrolling, salting and ploughing roads. In 2016/17 over 1,545 treatments were carried out across 26 routes (including roads and road pavements) in south west Scotland.
