Essential maintenance on A78 at Fairlie Main Street

Local road users are set to benefit from a vital maintenance scheme to improve the surface of the A78 at Fairlie beginning Saturday 1 February 2014.

 

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the resurfacing works in both directions over one weekend at the Causeway and Highfield traffic lights.

 

On Saturday 1 February traffic will be managed using progressive single lane closures and a convoy system with a temporary 10mph speed restriction in place between 9.00am and 4.00pm. Works will continue under a total closure on Sunday 1 February with traffic being diverted locally. All traffic management will be removed before 4.00pm on Sunday evening.

“This essential maintenance scheme will be carried out to benefit road users and improve the road surface on the A78 at Fairlie over the long term.

 

“We will carry out the works over the shortest time possible in order to keep delays to a minimum however I would urge motorists to leave plenty of time for their journeys to avoid delays.”

Advanced warning signs will also be in place on the approach to the works to inform motorists that roadworks are taking place.

A78 Northbound

  • A78 at Chapelhill Roundabout take 3rd exit onto B780 – continue on B780 to Dalry onto West Kilbride Road – take left onto James Street and at T junction with North Street/Braehead take left continuing on B780 to Burnside Bridge/B784 junction. Take left following B784 Swinlees Road to A760 Junction (Largs Road). Take left and follow A760 to Dalry Road, Largs. At A78 Junction take right to rejoin A78 northbound.

A78 Southbound

  • Reverse of above.

Supplementary Information

  • Traffic arriving at Montefode Roundabout (A78/A738) closure will be directed on the A78 southbound to join the diversion at Chapelhill Roundabout (B780)
  • Local access to Fairlie, Hunterston, West Kilbride and Seamill will be signed as appropriate

 

A725/A726 Birniehill Roundabout

Over £45,000 will be invested in essential road improvements on the A725/A726 trunk road at the Birniehill roundabout this weekend.

The resurfacing works will be carried out by Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, over the weekend of Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February 2014.

To protect the safety of motorists and roadworkers a total road closure will be implemented on Friday evening from 11.00pm and removed at 6.00am on Monday morning before peak time traffic.

Advanced warning signs will be positioned on the approach to the works to inform road users that the works are taking place and road traffic will be diverted via the local roads network.

“We are making every effort to minimise disruption to road users therefore our operatives will be on site and working continuously over one weekend when traffic flows are lighter.

M74 junction 6 southbound road improvements

Over £320,000 is being invested in vital improvements to the M74 southbound road surface at Junction 6 beginning 24 January.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is carrying out essential repairs to the route including resurfacing of the southbound carriageway and renewal of bridge joints.

The works will be carried out overnight over 10 days and will involve a number of traffic management measures between 8.00pm and 6.00am including single lane and total closures throughout the works.

“These essential repairs will help improve the road surface of the M74 Junction 6 and benefit those using the route for years to come.

A82 Stoneymollan Roundabout improvements to commence

Local residents and motorists using the A82 are set to benefit from new enhancements to Stoneymollan Roundabout, Balloch beginning Monday 13 January.

Scotland TranServ, the operating company for south west Scotland’s roads, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the works which will last approximately eight weeks.

The ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ will see improvements to the drainage, landscape and the ‘Flying Geese’ landmark which will be infilled and painted white. Seasonal flowers and trees will be planted and a maintenance access road will be created to complete the project.

Russell Rennie, Scotland TranServ’s contract director explains:

“Scotland TranServ is delighted to work in partnership with the National Park to deliver this exciting project.

“The planned improvements will give the roundabout a much needed facelift benefiting road users, local residents and visitors to the area for years to come.”

Temporary traffic management will consist of lane closures on the approaches to the roundabout and the nearside lane on the roundabout. This traffic management will be in place continuously throughout January from 6:00pm on the Sunday until 3:30pm each Friday afternoon. The traffic management will be removed in early February while the white geese are being refurbished and then reinstated during early March for the remainder of the works.

The layby on the north bound approach to the site will be closed throughout and advanced warning signs will be in place to alert motorists to the works.

Scotland TranServ will work closely with Transport Scotland and the National Park throughout the project to ensure the enhancements meet local expectations.
