Drivers across Inverclyde have benefitted from road improvements this summer and Scotland Transerv will be continuing with it’s resurfacing programme on behalf of Transport Scotland this winter.
The South West Scotland trunk roads management and maintenance provider has already made repairs along the A8, from Port Glasgow to Greenock, and now East Shaw Street and Sir Michael Street roundabouts in Greenock will be the latest to benefit.
Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ’s General Manager said:
“Our important programme of work continues in Greenock as we look to improve the area’s trunk roads for local commuters, visitors and freight traffic alike. This programme of work has been carefully planned with the local authority, police and transport authority as we look to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.
“In scheduling the work for a Sunday we are looking to have as little impact on local businesses in the town centre area as possible. Transport Scotland’s investment in Inverclyde has been significant in recent months as we continue to implement our maintenance and repair of major roads programme through the delivery of tangible, long-term benefits for drivers.”
Work will be carried out on the East Shaw Street and Sir Michael Street Roundabouts on Sunday 30th November. A road closure, with diversions in place will be necessary to allow the work to be carried out as quickly and safely as possible.
On behalf of Transport Scotland, TranServ recently improved the Cartsdyke and Cartsburn roundabouts, Pottery Street and Bow Road.
Russell Rennie, Scotland TranServ’s Contract Director said:
“Scotland TranServ is supporting the economic growth and development of Inverclyde with an important investment programme stretching out across a number routes along the Clyde coast. We’re delivering much needed improvements and carrying out vital day-to-day maintenance across the trunk roads network that will benefit drivers across the region for many years to come.”

“Advanced warning signs will be positioned on the approach to the works to inform road users that the works are taking place.”
The quality of the road surface on the off-slip on the south side of the Erskine Bridge is to be improved in the next week, before the Winter weather gets underway.
The work, which is being carried-out by Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland, will result in an improved driving surface with all defects repaired.
To allow the work to take place, the south bound carriageway of the Bridge will close from 22:30 on Tuesday 18 November to 0600 on Wednesday 19 November and there will be no access to the Erskine Bridge from the A82 trunk road.
Diversion
Southbound traffic on the A82 trunk road will continue on the A82 and follow the recognised diversion route to Glasgow. Traffic travelling northbound on the A82 from the Duntocher/Clydebank area will be unable to cross the Erskine Bridge and will continue to the Dunglass roundabout and join the diversion for southbound traffic.
Russell Rennie, contract director, Scotland TranServ comments:
“We are doing all we can to make sure that our trunk roads are in the best possible condition before the Winter weather sets-in. The cold weather conditions can exacerbate defects and our recent maintenance checks have flagged-up some issues on the southbound slip-road to the Bridge that should be repaired now to prevent further damage.
“In order to minimise disruption, we are carrying put the work at night and as we have a duty to keep our workers and of the motoring public safe it will be necessary to close the southbound carriageway.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank local drivers in advance, for their patience.”
Motorists can keep up to date with real time traffic information by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or following @TrafficScotland on Twitter. Advanced warning signs will also be in place on the approach to inform motorists that roadworks are taking place.
The work programmed for the A82 will go ahead as planned on Saturday 15 November, however due to adverse weather forecast for Sunday 16 majorworks from Saturday will continue overnight into Sunday morning. Limited works will continue during Sunday 16 and Traffic Management will remain in place until Sunday evening.
Improving A82 Trunk Road Surface at Glenarbuck
Scotland TranServ, is improving the road surface of the A82 at Glenarbuck as part of Transport Scotland’s continued programme of investment across the region.
Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ’s General Manager said:
“Across this region, Scotland TranServ has delivered significant investment on behalf of Transport Scotland. From the M8, to the Erskine Bridge and Stoneymollan. This is part of an ongoing investment as we go about making south west Scotland’s trunk roads a network to be proud of.”
In order to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to install temporary traffic management. Therefore, a contraflow system will operate between:
Saturday 15th November and Sunday 16th November 2014.
The cross over to the north of the scheme is located at the Dunglass Roundabout, with the south crossover before the slips to the Erskine Bridge. It will also be necessary to close the small section of road at Gavinburn from the A814 Dumbarton road, to prevent interruption to traffic on the main northbound carriageway of the A82 trunk road. Scotland TranServ will liaise closely with West Dunbartonshire Council in order to reduce disruption to local drivers.
Russell Rennie, Scotland TranServ’s Contract Director added:
“We’ve been working hard to create a good first impression on the thousands of visitors to Scotland, but more importantly making sure that a lasting legacy of road improvements is provided which will help local drivers in their daily commute and make life easier for freight drivers, as we deliver long-term benefits to these vital economic arteries.”
Essential repairs to the M74 Lochead between junction 10 and 8 resurfacing the northbound carriageway, are being carried-out by Scotland TranServ, as part of Transport Scotland’s on-going maintenance programme.
The works will be carried out overnight and will require a total closure of the northbound carriageway on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November. The road will reopen on Sunday morning but the fast lane will remain closed until 12pm on Sunday 22 November.
Diversion Route:
NB M74 Traffic leave at Jct 10 – follow B7078 Carlisle Rd NB – A71 & Rejoin M74 NB at Jct 8
Onslip traffic follow main diversion.
Russell Rennie, contract director, Scotland TranServ said:
“These essential repairs will help improve the road surface of the M74 Lochead between Junction 8 and 10 and benefit those using the route for years to come.
“We are making every effort to minimise disruption to road users therefore our operatives will be on site and working overnight when traffic flows are lighter.”
“Advanced warning signs will be positioned on the approach to the works to inform road users that the works are taking place.”
Motorists should plan ahead and leave plenty of time for their journeys. They can keep up to date with real time traffic information and diversion routes by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or following @TrafficScotland on Twitter.

A77 South Maybole
The road surface on the A77 through Maybole is to be repaired and improved as part of Transport Scotland’s on-going maintenance programme.
The repairs will be carried out by Scotland Transerv and will see approximately one kilometre of the carriageway upgraded, delivering long-term benefits to drivers along the A77 at Maybole.
In order to carry out this essential road surface improvement project as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a full road closure on Sunday 23rd and Sunday 30 November from 0800hrs to 1800hrs.
Russell Rennie, Scotland TranServ’s Contract Director said:
“Across south west Scotland we are improving the trunk roads network on behalf of Transport Scotland, supporting the economic growth and development of this important region.”
“This is a significant project that will deliver long-term, tangible benefits for drivers in this part of Ayrshire.”
Diversion routes for total closures:
A77 Southbound:
Leave A77 SB at Maybole Cross on to B7023 – Crosshill – B7023 – B741 – rejoin A77 just North of Bridgemill Rbt.
A77 Northbound:
Leave A77 at Turnberry – A719 NB – rejoin A77 back at Doonholm Rd, south of Bankfield roundabout.
Work is continuing on the A77 between Cairnryan and the Challock Roundabout in Girvan following three landslides this morning.
A team from Scotland Transerv has cleared almost 360 tonnes of rubble from the road and they are now repairing some minor damage to the surface. It is hoped that the repairs will be completed later this evening.
An inspection of the carriageway and drainage system has been carried out and specialist Geotechnical Engineers have assessed all three sites.
Russell Rennie, Contract Director for Scotland TranServ said:
“Our teams have been working hard throughout the day to clear the carriageway as quickly and as safely possible. I would like to thank the travelling public for their patience whilst this essential clear up operation is taking place.”
Due to adverse weather conditions overnight the A77 remains closed in both directions between Cairnryan and Shallock Roundabout, Girvan due to flooding. A diversion is in operation via the A75 and onto the A713 for northbound traffic and the reverse for southbound traffic. The normal diversion would be via the A714 but this is also closed due to flooding.
There were three incidents of landslips on the A77 overnight:
Location 1 has been cleared with works now ongoing at locations 2 & 3, it is estimated that there is approximately 100-120 tonnes of material at each location requiring to be cleared. Engineers are currently on site assessing the locations and co-ordinating with all relevant parties prior to making any decision on re-opening the road.
In addition to this we also have sweepers running the length of the A77 from Girvan to Ballantrae to remove all debris and detritus from the carriageway.
Scotland TranServ will be monitoring the situation closely and will send updates throughout the day.
Russell Rennie, Contract Director for Scotland TranServ said:
“Due to an exceptionally high volume of rainfall overnight in the west of Scotland this has resulted in three Landslips on the A77 and a degree of localised flooding on the trunk road.”
“Scotland TranServ resources were out throughout the night dealing with localised flooding issues and our Engineers were out at first light in order to assess the stability of the landslips. We are working with our partner, DG First to remove the debris and will then be able to assess whether the road can be re-opened. We will ensure that any inconvenience to the public is kept to a minimum.”
