£260k maintenance scheme on A701

An essential maintenance scheme will commence on A701 at The Grove on Friday 10 April lasting for approximately five days.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the works which will see sections of the road resurfaced and the drainage improved; benefiting over 20,000 motorists who use this route each day.

Almost £4.5 million has been invested in Dumfries and Galloway’s roads in the last 12 months alone with this being the latest in this area of historical importance.

Gordon Wilson, contract director for Scotland TranServ said:

“This vital maintenance scheme will improve this busy section of road for local residents, commercial businesses and motorists for years to come.

“Although work is programmed out with peak times, some disruption is inevitable and I would like to thank the local community and motorists for their patience while we carry out these essential works.”

To ensure the safety of roadworkers, local residents and motorists the work will be carried out under a total closure from 8.00pm Friday evening until 6.00am on Monday morning. There will also be two overnight closures on Monday and Tuesday evening from 8.00pm until 6.00am.

Due to the nature of the works, the A701 between Tinwald Downs Roundabout and Edinburgh Road Roundabout will be closed in both directions overnight for the five day project with local access being maintained throughout. A diversion will be in place via B7076 and A709.

In Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland TranServ has subcontracted its roads maintenance and winter services to DG First which maintains over 260 kilometres of south west Scotland’s trunk road network stretching from Gretna to Stranraer, Dumfries to Beattock & Dumfries to Kirkconnel.

A751 works finish ahead of schedule

The A751 south of Inch Parks Farm will reopen tomorrow evening (Friday, 27 March) two days ahead of schedule.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland has been carrying out the £1m maintenance scheme, which began on 9 March. The work has resulted in a significant improvement to the road surface and drainage system on the A751 which joins the A77 to the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.

Favourable weather conditions and the dedication the operatives working on site has accelerated the work programme which was expected to last until Sunday 29 March. A unique paving system was also used which enabled operatives to lay twice the amount of asphalt in one pass; resulting in a quicker application.

“I am delighted to announce that these works have been completed ahead of schedule, opening up this vital lifeline route to over 1,500 motorists and heavy goods traffic that use this route each day.

“These long term improvements will benefit the local area not only in advance of the upcoming tourist season but for years to come.”

This project brings a total investment of almost £4.5m across Dumfries and Galloway’s trunk roads network over the last 12 months.

M8 Hillington Footbridge - Holding Statement

A spokesperson for Scotland TranServ said:

“The planned installation of the M8 Hillington Footbridge on Saturday 28 March has been postponed due to a forecast for winds of up to 44mph.

“The crane which will be used to hoist the bridge into place cannot operate safely if wind speeds exceed 25mph.

“The M8 between Junctions 26 and 27 will now remain open until a revised installation date is scheduled.”

A77 GLENLUIE FARM, KIRKOSWALD RESURFACING WORKS

Road users are set to benefit from £127k of improvement works on the A77 West of Glenluie Farm, Kirkoswald both north and southbound beginning 27 March 2015.

Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out resurfacing works to improve the quality of the road surface for the years ahead.

Due to the nature of the works and to ensure the safety of the workforce and motoring public a total road closure will be in place between Maybole and Girvan from 2300 on Friday 27 March to 0500 on Monday 30 March. A local diversion will be in operation.

Diversion

Southbound

B7023 from Maybole Crosshill, then B741 to Turnberry.

Northbound

A719 from Turnberry to Pennyglen then B7023 to Maybole.

£120K INVESTMENT IN AYRSHIRE’S TRUNK ROADS

Local road users are set to benefit from a further £100k of essential improvements which will get underway today (25 March) at Hansell Village on the A77 northbound from Dutchouse Roundabout to Bellfield Roundabout.

Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the re texturising works to improve resistance on the existing road surface during a single night closure.

Almost half a million pounds has been invested in Ayrshire’s trunk roads since January 2015; improving these vital trunk roads ahead of the busy summer tourist season.

“This vital improvement scheme will not only improve the road surface but also ensure Ayrshire’s roads are in top condition ahead of the busy Ayrshire tourist season.

A local diversion for northbound motorists will be in place from the A78 to Monktonhead roundabout, A78 North to Worrix Interchange then the A71 to Bellfield Roundabout on the A77.

Advanced warning signs will also be in place on the approach to the works to inform motorists that roadworks are taking place.

M74 improvements at Burnhead

Motorists using the M74 at Burnhead are set to benefit from £200k of essential improvements which will get underway between J7 and J8 East of Larkhall, on Sunday 29 March 2014.

Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the resurfacing works to repair the existing road surface over three nights.

In order to carry out these works safely a total closure of the M74 southbound will be in place throughout the works each night from 8.00pm until 6.00am. There will also be a closure of lane one on the M74 southbound throughout Sunday daytime to allow materials to cool before the road can be re opened.

“The works are planned to be carried out over the shortest time possible however I would urge motorists to plan their journeys.”

A diversion route will be in place throughout the works. Southbound traffic will be diverted via the A72 Lanark Rd and A71 Ayr Rd to re join the M74 at Junction 8.

New Hillington Footbridge in full swing

The brand new, £2.5 million footbridge on the M8 at Hillington (between Junctions 26 and 27) is set to be installed overnight on Saturday 28 March 2015.

Scotland TranServ is currently overseeing the works which are being carried out by contractor Graham Construction in a project which is expected to last until mid April.

To ensure the safety of motorists and engineers the installation of the bridge must be carried out overnight. This will mean a total closure of the M8 in both directions between 8.00pm on Saturday evening until 9.00am* on Sunday morning. Two further overnight closures will also take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday 11 April 2015
  • Saturday 18 April 2015

Gordon Wilson, contract director for Scotland TranServ commented:

“This is an important element of the project which will see the installation of the modern, new structure which connects Hillington to Renfrew.

“The safety of motorists, local residents and our engineers is of the utmost priority and it is vital that we carry out this process under a total, overnight closure when traffic flows are lighter; therefore ensuring that delays are minimal.”

Although the existing footbridge will remain open throughout the closure, pedestrians and cyclists will be escorted across the bridge by site staff.

Scotland TranServ currently manages and maintains over 1,800 structures across south west Scotland. The current bridge no longer conforms to modern day standards and will be replaced by a sustainable, new structure which is partly made of recycled materials and features easy access for cyclists and less-abled pedestrians.

A local diversion will be in place with motorists being directed westbound through Hillington and Paisley and rejoining the M8 at Arkleston. Motorists traveling eastbound will exit at Arkleston before rejoining the M8 again at Hillington.

*Taking into account that the clocks will go forward on Sunday 29 March

A78 Auchengarth Improvements

Local residents and motorists will welcome a £10k investment in vital improvements to the drainage on the A78 at Auchengarth House between Largs and Skelmorlie commencing on 23 March 2015.

Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland will upgrade the drainage on this route to alleviate flooding in the run up to the busy summer tourist season.

To ensure the safety of motorists and roadworkers alike the southbound road will be closed throughout the works. Traffic lights will be in operation during daytime hours with a total closure of the road from Monday 23 until Friday 27 March between 8.00pm until 6.00am.

M8 Junction 15 weekend closure

19 March 2015

The M8 Junction 15 at Townhead will be closed eastbound on Saturday 21 and westbound on Sunday 22 March between 8.00pm and 6.00am.

This is to enable Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland to undertake a series of essential structural inspections.

A local diversion will be in place via the M74. Motorists should take the Junction 15 off slip and return to the M8 via the Junction 15 on slip.

A76 Dettingen Roundabout resurfacing works

LOCAL ROAD USERS TO BENEFIT FROM A76 RESURFACING WORKS

Road users are set to benefit from £50k of improvement works on both the north and southbound lanes of A76 Dettingen Roundabout, Cumnock.

Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out resurfacing works from Tuesday 17 to Thursday 19 March to improve the quality of the road surface for the years ahead.

The works will be carried out in separate phases over three nights between the hours of 7pm to 6am to avoid peak periods. Depending on the traffic management measures that will be in operation during the works, vehicles travelling on the A70 may have to use signed local diversions.

Temporary traffic lights will also be in use at the roundabout to allow vehicles safe passage around the roundabout whilst the works are ongoing.
