Work to begin on A78 Greenock

Local road users are set to benefit from over £30k of essential maintenance works on the A78 trunk road between Cumberland Road and Auchmead Rd, Greenock.

Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the resurfacing work overnight on Friday 5 June 2015.

Safety is of the utmost importance and to protect our workforce and motorists the work will take place under a total closure of the A78 between Cumberland Road and Auchmead Road from 8.00pm until 6.00am.

“This essential maintenance scheme will improve the resilience of the road surface on this section of the A78 for years to come.

“We have done everything we can to plan these works when traffic flows are lighter in order to minimise disruption to local residents and the travelling public.”

A signed diversion will be in place throughout the works. Motorists travelling in the westbound direction of the closure will be diverted via the A770 Cloch road to join the A78 trunk road at Bankfoot Roundabout. Eastbound traffic will travel via the A770 Cloch road to the Bullring Roundabout.

Traffic joining the A78 trunk road between the Bullring Roundabout and Cumberland Road will be directed back to the Bullring to join the diversion route. Similarly, traffic joining the A78 trunk road between Bankfoot Roundabout and Auchmead Road will be redirected to Bankfoot Roundabout.

A725 RESURFACING WORKS

Over £60K of upgrading works is being carried out westbound on the A725 Whistleberry Road to Whistleberry Toll which will improve the road surface for those using the route.

The works will see Scotland Transerv, on behalf of Transport Scotland, resurface the route over one evening and every effort is being made to help keep disruption to a minimum during that time. A total closure of the westbound carriageway will be in operation from 8.00pm on Wednesday 3 June to 6.00am on Thursday 4 June.

“We are doing everything we can to minimise disruption by carrying out the works overnight when the maintenance is underway.

M8 east of junction 31 (West Ferry)

Local road users are set to benefit from over £90k of essential maintenance works on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 motorway east of junction 31 (West Ferry) opposite Cora Campus house.

ScotlandTranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works over two consecutive nights Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th May to replace the existing road surface.

Safety is of the utmost importance and to protect our workforce and motorists the work will take place under a night time total closure of the M8 eastbound carriageway each night from at 8.00pm to 6.00am.

Discussions with the Police have advised that the diversion for eastbound motorway traffic travelling from Greenock will be via the agreed diversion route which runs from Newark roundabout in Port Glasgow via Clune Brae to Bridge of Weir then on to the A737 trunk road to re-join the M8 motorway at St James interchange. Traffic from Woodhall and Langbank wishing to access the eastbound carriageway of the M8 motorway will be directed to this diversion route.

Advanced notification signs will also be in place on the approach to the works to inform motorists that roadworks are taking place and to follow the signed diversion route.

Works continue on A77 landslip sites

The repairs to the embankments on the A77 at Carlock Hill and north of Marchburn will continue on Monday 25 May 2015 for one week.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland started preparatory works at both these locations last week.

These repairs are scheduled to take place overnight from Monday 25 until Friday 29 May 2015 between 10:00pm and 6:00am. To ensure the safety of motorists and our workforce these works will take place under a total closure of the A77 between Girvan and Cairnryan.

Upon completion of this phase of works the temporary traffic lights currently in operation at these two locations will be removed.

“It is vital that we carry out these works to ensure the route is safe to reopen to the local community and over 3,000 motorists who travel through this area each day.

“Safety is of the utmost importance and we will continue to do everything we can to reduce the risk of further landslips in these locations and improve the long term resilience of the A77.”

This is the first phase of works on the A77 to improve the resilience to landslips between Ballantrae and Cairnryan and will assist in ensuring the safety of the travelling public and maintaining access along this important commuter and business route. Scotland TranServ is currently working with Transport Scotland on a long term strategy to reduce the risk of landslips across the south west trunk road network.

A diversion will be in place during the overnight closures. A77 traffic travelling northbound will be diverted south from Cairnryan, then east via the A751 to the A75 to Newton Stewart, then northbound on the A714 to re-join the A77 at Girvan. Southbound traffic will follow the same direction in reverse.

A75 WORKS THIS WEEKEND

Local road users are set to benefit from over £330k of essential maintenance works which will start on Friday 22 May on the A75 between the Driving Range and Marchfield Rounall.

Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works over four nights using an innovative crack and seat process which recycles materials on site to replace the existing road surface and improves its resilience over the long term.

This is the 10th time this environmentally friendly process has been carried out on Dumfries and Galloway’s trunk roads over the last two years as part of an overall investment of £5 million.

Safety is of the utmost importance and to protect our workforce, motorists and local residents, the works will take place within a closure of the A75 between Edinburgh Road Roundabout and Lockerbie Road Roundabout from Friday 22 May at 8.00pm until Monday 25 May at 6.00am.

A local diversion for westbound motorists will be in place westbound via the A780 Annan Road, Shakespeare Street, Whitesands and Glasgow Street. Eastbound traffic will travel via Glasgow Street, Buccleuch Street, Loreburn Street, English Street and A780 Annan Road.

Advanced warning signs will also be in place on the approach to the works to inform motorists that roadworks are taking place.

 

A77 landslip works to begin

An essential maintenance scheme to carry out temporary repairs to the embankments on A77 at Carlockhill and north of Marchburn will commence on Monday 18 May 2015.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out preparatory works over one week, under the current traffic management on the A77 between Cairnryan and Shalloch Roundabout in Girvan.

Repairs are then scheduled to take place overnight from Monday 25 until Friday 29 May 2015. To ensure the safety of motorists and our workforce these works will take place under a total closure of the A77 between Girvan and Cairnryan.

Upon completion of the works, it is planned that the temporary traffic lights in operation at these two locations will be removed.

“The safety of the local community, motorists and our workforce is of the utmost priority and it is vital that we carry out these works to ensure the route is safe.

“We fully understand the importance of the A77 to over 3,000 motorists who travel through the area each day and are doing everything we can to improve the long term resilience of this route.”

Since the landslips in November 2014, Scotland TranServ’s Geotechnical Engineers have been carrying out geotechnical surveys and carriageway inspections at three sites on the A77 and at a further location on the A76 at Enterkinfoot where subsidence has been discovered.

Scotland TranServ is currently working with Transport Scotland on plans to carry out permanent repairs to all four sites, which will help to prevent future landslips.

A diversion will be in place throughout the works between 10.00am and 6.00am. A77 traffic travelling northbound will be diverted south from Cairnryan, then east via the A751 to the A75 to Newton Stewart, then northbound on the A714 to re join the A77 at Girvan. Southbound traffic will follow the same direction in reverse.

M8 motorway Junction 31 – Carriageway resurfacing

People using Scotland’s busiest road can look forward to improved driving conditions as a result of resurfacing work being carried out in May.

Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland is carrying out essential repairs at Greenock Road, Junction 31 Eastbound from the evening of Friday 15 May to early morning on Monday 18 May.

In order to carry out the road surface improvement project as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a total closure of the Eastbound Carriageway between the off and on slips at Junction 31 Greenock Road.

A diversion will be in operation during the works:

Traffic on the A8 / M8 eastbound will be diverted down the off-slip and back up the on-slip re-joining the M8 eastbound.

Traffic joining the M8 at Junction 31 with the intention of heading eastbound will be diverted westbound along the M8 / A8 to Woodhall Roundabout for HGVs and Langbank roundabout for all other traffic, where they will turn and re-join the A8 / M8 heading eastbound; and subsequently be diverted off and back on at Junction 31.

A77 Bankfield Roundabout Resurfacing

Road users are set to benefit from £80k of resurfacing works on the Bankfield Roundabout on the A77 beginning Monday 11 May.

With the road surface coming towards the end of its operational life, the Scotland TranServ team on behalf of Transport Scotland will resurface the roundabout benefiting motorists who use this route each day with a smoother quieter journey.

More than half a million pounds has been invested in Ayrshire’s trunk roads since January 2015; improving these vital trunk roads ahead of the busy summer tourist season.

Work will be carried out overnight in order to reduce disruption to the travelling public. Work will take place from Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May 2015 and will take place from 20.00 to 06.00 each night.

Due to the nature of the works and to protect the health and safety of our operatives and travelling public a series of Traffic Management measures will be in place;

The A77 north bound and south bound will be closed between Maybole Road and Holmston Roundabout each night.

The A713 through Bankfield Roundabout will be controlled under 2-way traffic lights during the works.

Northbound A77 traffic will be diverted north bound along Maybole Road – St Leonards Road – Carrick Roadd – A70 eastbound Holmston Road – Rejoin A77 northbound at Holmston Roundabout.

Southbound traffic will follow the reverse of northbound diversion.
