Due to an exceptionally high volume of rainfall overnight on Saturday 14 November the drainage system on the A82 at Dumbuck was overwhelmed; resulting in severe, localised flooding on the trunk road.
To ensure the safety of road users and allow emergency repairs to the drainage system to be carried out the road was closed by Police Scotland between 6.00am and 4.00pm on Sunday.
Further repairs will take place on Tuesday 17 November requiring a single, southbound lane closure between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, carried out carriageway reconstruction on Saturday 7th November through till Sunday 8th November under a full closure of the A77. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions at the weekend, the surfacing works could not be completed and as a result there are currently temporary traffic signals in place on the A77.
Weather forecasts have indicated that there is a window of opportunity to complete the works under a full closure from Tuesday 10th November at 8pm till 6am on Wednesday 11th November. Completion of the works on Tuesday night avoids delay to the ongoing programme of works and allows removal of the temporary traffic signals, thus reducing delay to the travelling public.
During the proposed road closures, a signed diversion will be in place diverting motorists along the A714 to Newton Stewart before taking the A75 back towards Stranraer. The route is for both northbound and southbound movements.
Scotland Transerv apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Scotland TranServ, working on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out a programme of works on the Nithsdale Road Bridge over the M77 which is located west of Bellahouston Park, next to Dumbreck Rail Station beginning on 8 November.
Over £120,000 of works will be carried out to improve the quality of the road surface, waterproof the bridge deck and carry out concrete repairs and joint replacement.
We are doing everything we can to minimise disruption. The safety of operatives and road users is of the utmost importance therefore works will be carried out under a series of closures and a local diversion will be implemented during this time.
Gordon Wilson, contract director, Scotland TranServ said:
“It is essential that we carry out this scheme to improve Nithsdale Road Bridge; benefiting local residents and motorists for years to come.
“We have done everything we can to plan these works in order to minimise disruption to local residents and the travelling public, however I would urge motorists to leave plenty of time for their journeys.”
