£100k investment in Inverclyde’s trunk roads

A £100k investment in road maintenance in Inverclyde is being made on the A78 route at Barrs Cottage, Greenock with work starting on Saturday 27 February 2016.

ScotlandTranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works to this trunk road over this weekend; ensuring the longevity of this section of road for years to come.

To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers alike, the trunk road will be closed from 6.00pm on Saturday 27 February until 6.00am on Monday 29 February and motorists should follow a local diversion route. Although the road will be closed, no night time working will take place, minimising disruption to local residents.

This work was previously programmed to be carried out on several occasions but had to be cancelled due to adverse weather.

“This resurfacing scheme will ensure that Inverclyde’s trunk roads are upgraded in time for the upcoming, busy summer tourist season.

“Although the works have been carefully programmed to be carried out when traffic flows are lighter road users are advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys.”

Diversion:

A78 southbound traffic should follow B7054 Dunlop St, Lynedoch Street, Regent St and Sir Michael Street to rejoin A78 southbound at Sir Michael Street Roundabout. A78 northbound traffic should follow southbound diversion in reverse.

A77 Dutchhouse: essential maintenance

With the busy, Ayrshire summer tourist season fast approaching, a programme of essential maintenance to improve the road surface will get underway on the A77 between Dutchhouse Roundabout and Symington Road on Wednesday 2 March.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the resurfacing works over three night closures, when traffic flows are at their lightest, therefore minimising disruption to road users.

Safety of both road users and roadworkers is paramount and a total closure will be required on Wednesday 2 March between 9.00pm and 6.00am to carry out the work. A diversion route as described below will be in place.

Diversion routes

Motorists travelling northbound should leave the A77 at Dutchhouse Roundabout and follow A78 to Warrix Interchange, leave A78 and follow A71 to Bellfield Roundabout, re-join A77. Traffic travelling southbound should follow this route in reverse.

Works to begin on A75

Scotland TranServ, working on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out a programme of works on the A75 at New Ramhill Bridge located 3 miles east of Castle Douglas beginning Monday 22 February.

The work will improve the quality of the surface and waterproof the bridge deck over three days under a single lane closure and convoy system. The bridge joints will be replaced under a full closure on the evenings of Monday 29 February and Tuesday 1 March between 8.00pm and 6.00am and a local diversion will be in place.

Frontline operatives shine bright for local charity

Frontline operatives who have been battling against storms and one of the wettest winters on record today (Wednesday, 10 February) presented the Brightest Star charity with a cheque for £860.

Scotland TranServ operatives were eager to raise funds for the charity, which was formed after Arlene Smith lost her son Jack and now helps to support other bereaved families. Over 300 staff took part in coffee mornings and a raffle draw across their head office and depot in Polmadie, Glasgow and five operational depots in Ayr and Dumfries and Galloway.

Former colleague and Jack’s Grandmother Dot Clark and his Mother, Arlene were on hand today to finally receive a cheque from the operatives who have been working round the clock to keep south west Scotland moving during storms Frank, Gertrude and Henry.

Brightest Star provide much needed support to families who have lost a child through group therapy sessions and one to one to support with bereavement counsellors.

Improvements to get underway on the A77

Motorists across Ayrshire are set to benefit from £72k of essential maintenance which will get underway at Wee Ireland, north of Maybole.

Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the resurfacing works to repair defects to the existing road surface in a project which will last for two nights.

Safety is paramount and the works will be carried out under an overnight closure of the A77 at this location from 8.00pm until 6.00am on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 February 2016.

Diversion:

Motorists should travel northbound from Turnberry via A719, then via Greenfield Avenue and Doonholm Road before rejoining the A77. Southbound traffic from A77 should travel via Doonholm Road, Greenfield Avenue then join A719 southbound to Turnberry.

£150K upgrading works to begin on the A75 at Mossyard

Road users are set to benefit from £150K of upgrading works on the A75 at Mossyard, which is located 6km west of Gatehouse of Fleet and will see the construction of a right turn lane.

The works by Scotland TranServ, operating on behalf of Transport Scotland, are programmed to begin on Monday 22 February 2016 for 8 weeks. The works will be carried out under one-way alternating traffic lights.

A76 BARGOWER RAIL BRIDGE UPGRADING WORKS

Road users are set to benefit from the final phase in £100k of improvement works on the northbound lane of the A76 Bargower Rail Bridge located south of Crossroads roundabout adjacent to Cessnock Water.

Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the refurbishment of the bridge deck including; waterproofing, joint replacement and concrete repairs over the coming weeks.

We are doing everything we can to minimise disruption and our works will be carried out under a convoy system form 7.00pm on Sunday 14 February to 6.00am on Monday 29 February.

Final Phase of Works to begin on Nithsdale Road Bridge

Scotland TranServ, working on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the final phase of works on the Nithsdale Road Bridge over the M77 which is located west of Bellahouston Park, next to Dumbreck Rail Station beginning on 14 February.

This final phase of the £120,000 project will be carried out to improve the quality of the road surface, waterproof the bridge deck and carry out concrete repairs and joint replacement.

We are doing everything we can to minimise disruption. The safety of operatives and road users is of the utmost importance therefore works will be carried out under a series of closures and a local diversion will be implemented during this time.

  • Sunday 14 February – overnight total closure from 20:00 to 06:00
  • Sunday 28 February – overnight total closure from 20:00 to 06:00
  • Sunday 6 March – overnight total closure from 20:00 to 06:00
  • Out with these closure dates traffic lights will be implemented 24hrs beginning Monday 15 February to Monday 7 March

A726 Murray Roundabout to A725 Whitemoss Roundabout Resurfacing Works

The £127,000 investment in essential road improvements on the A725/A726 road between the Murray and Whitemoss roundabouts has now been rescheduled following the postponement due to adverse weather conditions.

The resurfacing works will be carried out by Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland and to protect the safety of motorists and roadworkers a total road closure of the eastbound carriageway will be implemented on Tuesday 2 February from midnight and removed at 6.00am on Thursday 4 February before peak time traffic.

Advanced warning signs will be positioned on the approach to the works to inform road users that the works are taking place and road traffic will be diverted via the local roads network.
