A75 Newton Stewart Roundabout **Amended Timing of Resurfacing Works**

The timing of the work taking place on the A75 at the Newton Stewart roundabout this weekend has been amended as below.

  • Friday 30th September: 10.00pm to 8.00am
  • Saturday 1st October: 10.00pm to 8.00am
  • Sunday 2 October: 8.00pm to 6.00am

Access to and from Wigtown and The Book Festival will be maintained when the work is taking place and signs will be out on the approach to the roundabout from the A714 and the A75 to direct road users accordingly.

When the eastern side of the roundabout is being resurfaced, access will be via the western side and vice versa. Road users should take notice of the traffic management and signing in place and follow the signed diversion route, as appropriate, depending on their direction of travel.

Final phase in A78 Largs improvements

 

 

The final phase of a programme to improve the A78 through Largs will commence on Friday, 7 October for one weekend.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works to renew over 400 metres of road surface through Largs Main Street.

With over 4,500 vehicles passing through the town centre each day, a full road closure will be in operation between Bath Street and Gogo Street, to ensure the safety of both operatives and road users. The closure will be in place continually from 8.00pm on Friday 7 October until 6.00am on Monday 10 October.

Scotland TranServ’s operating company representative, Andy Fraser said:

“The works in Largs Main Street are the final phase in a £650k investment to deliver essential road improvements to the A78 through Ayrshire.

“We understand the importance of this route for tourists, road haulage companies, ferry operators and the local community of Largs and have carried out extensive consultation to ensure the works are delivered out with the busy summer season.

“We would like to thank the local community and road users for their patience whilst this final round of improvements are delivered.”

Scotland TranServ will also install a high friction road surface overnight, on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 October, with convoy working during the hours of 8.00pm until 6.00am.

Largs Main Street will remain open to pedestrians however road users should follow a signed, local diversion.

Diversion Route:

Southbound traffic will travel along Bath Street via Mackerston Place and Charles Street. Northbound traffic will follow signage via John Street, Broomfield Place, Mackerston Place and Bath Street.

Update on M8, J18 barrier strike

 

Following a barrier strike at 5.56am, on Thursday 22 September at Junction 18 of the M8, a full closure has been implemented at the onslip to Charing Cross.

To ensure the safety of motorists almost 90m of specialist barrier system will be installed later today with all traffic management restrictions removed when the barrier is safe and fit for purpose.

Due to an expected high volume of traffic on trunk roads during peak times, due to the holiday weekend, we would advise road users to plan their journeys by visiting Traffic Scotland’s website or following @TrafficScotland on Twitter. Road users should also be aware that local roads may also be busier.

£220k investment in M77 safety barriers

 

The third phase in a multi million pound programme of barrier works is set to get underway on Sunday 25 September 2016.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the £220k scheme on the M77; replacing over 700m of safety barrier from just south of Nithsdale Overbridge to the top of the on and off ramps leading to the M8 motorway.

The four week programme will see the upgrade of the current barrier system, which has reached the end of its operational lifespan. Work is expected to be completed by Friday 21 October.

To ensure operatives and road users are protected throughout the works, the on slip from the M8 to the M77 will be closed on weekday nights from Sunday 25 September until Friday 21 October. Traffic management will be in place between 8.00pm and 6.00am each night. A series of north and southbound lane closures will also be in place during these times.

Second phase of works on A78 at Routenburn

The second phase of a half a million pound project to improve the road surface of the A78 through Largs is set to commence at Routenburn on Tuesday 27 September.

Scotland TranServ will carry out the works on behalf of Transport Scotland in a £222k investment to replace over 6,500 square metres of road surface in both directions.

To protect operatives and road users alike, a daytime convoy system will be in operation between Hollywood and Douglas Street from 7.00am to 7.00pm each day, commencing on Tuesday 27 September with the completion of the works being scheduled for Friday 7 October 2016.

“This is the second phase in a programme of works to improve the road surface on the A78 through Largs.

“We have given careful consideration to the planning of these works and after extensive consultation with the Community Council and local authority we have agreed to deliver the project out with the busy tourist season, therefore lessening the impact on local residents and businesses.

“Road users may experience delays of up to 40 minutes during peak times therefore motorists should plan ahead and leave plenty of time for their journeys.”

A725 TRUNK ROAD BETWEEN MAIN STREET AND GLASGOW ROAD RESURFACING WORKS

Over £120k will be invested on the A725 to resurface one kilometre of the northbound carriageway between Main Street and Glasgow Road located adjacent to Blantyre, beginning on Tuesday 27 September 2016.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the work safely and efficiently with overnight closures in place from Main Street to Glasgow Road commencing on Tuesday 27 September 2016 until Friday 30 September 2016. These closures will be in operation from 8.00pm until 6.00am each night and a local diversion will be in place.

New aircraft navigation lighting on Erskine Bridge

 

As part of a £3.25m investment by Transport Scotland to upgrade lighting on the A898 at Erskine Bridge, weekend works at the top of the two Bridge towers will commence on Saturday 17 September.

Principal Contractor, Lightways will access the towers to replace the existing aircraft navigation lamps with new LED lights. Operatives will be working at heights of 40 metres above the bridge deck therefore to protect both the workforce and road users, offside lane closures will be required in both directions on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September and again on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September 2016. Traffic management will be in operation from 6.00am to 6.00pm each day.

It is expected that journey times will increase by approximately 45 minutes and road users are advised to plan ahead using Traffic Scotland’s website and Twitter feed for real time traffic information.

Scotland TranServ is currently overseeing the 28 week programme which will result in up to 70% in energy savings for Transport Scotland.

Operating company representative for Scotland TranServ, Andy Fraser said:

“We have considered all the available options for carrying out this work and the safest way for the contractor to access the towers and install the new lighting is during daylight hours under offside lane closures.

“Delays are expected to be around 45 minutes therefore we would urge road users to plan ahead and leave plenty of time for their journeys.”

The cycle and pedestrian lanes on the eastbound side of the Bridge will remain closed during the works with the westbound side operating as normal.

A75 Bridge Maintenance Works

Road users are set to benefit from maintenance works on the A75 Dunmuir Road Bridge at Castle Douglas beginning on Monday 12 September.

Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out joint replacements on this bridge to improve the resilience of this structure for years to come.

To carry out the work safely and efficiently, overnight closures of the A75 will be in place on the bridge from 7.00pm to 5.00am on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 September. Traffic will be diverted locally through Castle Douglas.

In addition to these works on the A75, five overbridges on this route will undergo maintenance works and joint replacements:

  • A75 Howes Overbridge (Closure) – Local diversion will be in place from 7.00pm to 5.00am each night from 14 to 17 September
  • A75 Violetbank Overbridge (Closure) – Local diversion required from 08.00am to 4.00pm each day from 19 to 22 September
  • A75 North Street Overbridge (Closure) – Local diversion required from 08.00am to 4.00pm each day from 26 to 30 September
  • A75 Nivenhill Road Overbridge (Closure) – Local diversion required from 08:00am to 4:00pm each day from 3 to 7 October
  • A75 Stapleton Road Overbridge works will be carried out using two-way traffic lights from 10 to 18 October each day from 8.00am – 4.00pm

The works to these five overbridges will not directly affect traffic on the A75 trunk road.

“It is essential that we carry out the bridge joint replacements on these structures on the A75 to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose for local residents and motorists.

“We have planned these works in order to minimise disruption to local residents and road users, however I would urge motorists to leave plenty of time for their journeys.”
