£160k investment in Renfrewshire’s trunk roads

Local communities are set to benefit from a £160k investment in resurfacing the A737 trunk road between the River Garnock and Dalry town centre commencing on Friday 27 January 2017.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works to resurface the route in both directions over one weekend.

A full closure of the A737 will be required at this location to protect operatives and road users alike. Traffic management will be in place from 8.00pm on Friday 27 January until 6.00am on Monday 30 January.

Road users traveling southbound should follow a local diversion via the A737 at Manrahead Roundabout, B777 towards Glengarnock then continue on the B780 to Dalry before rejoining the A737 at Townend Street. Northbound traffic should follow the same route in reverse.

“This programme of essential maintenance will ensure a safer and smoother journey for road users travelling on the A737 each day.

“We have carefully planned the works over the shortest time possible, ensuring minimum disruption to road users, however we would advise motorists to plan ahead and leave plenty of time for their journeys.”

Further investment in the A725

A further £120k is set to be invested in South Lanarkshire’s roads as a programme of essential maintenance gets underway on the A725 from Monday 30 January 2017.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works to resurface the route on the eastbound offslip and onslip of the A725 leading to Douglas Street, Blantyre.

With safety of the utmost priority, a full overnight closure of both slips will be required when the work is being carried-out. The slips will close at each night at 20.00 from Monday, 30 January until Thursday 2 February and will reopen at 6.00 the following morning.

Road users wishing to join the A725 should follow the signed diversion via the B7012 and Douglas Street, before rejoining the A725 at Main Street. Road users leaving the A725 should continue on the A725 and exit at Main Street before returning westbound on the B7012.

A898 Erskine Bridge Overnight slip road resurfacing works

Local communities across West Dunbartonshire will welcome a programme of works to resurface the slip roads of the A898 at Erskine Bridge which will begin on Thursday 2nd February 2017.

ScotlandTranServ, will carry out the works on behalf of Transport Scotland, which will see the on and off slips at the north end (A82) resurfaced over five nights.

To ensure the safety of the workforce, a series of closures will be in place on the slip roads to and from the Bridge and the A82 each night from 8.00pm until 6.00am. A local diversion route will also be in place via Dunglass Roundabout and Mountblow Interchange.

On Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th February 2017 the northbound carriageway of the Erskine Bridge will be closed at the M898 motorway at the south end of the bridge. There will be no access to the bridge from the Spectacles Roundabout from 8.00pm until 6.00am each night and a local diversion will be in place.

M8 overhead gantry reinstatement

Work to reinstate four, refurbished overhead gantries on the M8 is set to commence on Friday, 20 January 2017.

The programme, which is part of a £6.5m investment from Transport Scotland, will see four gantries on the M8, between Junctions 10 and 11 (westbound), 11 and 12 (westbound), 18 and 15 (eastbound) and 23 and 25 (westbound) being installed after extensive refurbishment and maintenance works to the structural steelwork and the upgrading of the lighting technology.

Due to the nature of the works and to protect the health and safety of motorists and road workers alike a series of traffic management measures will be in place overnight, between the hours of 8.00pm and 6.00am. The first installation will begin on Friday 20 January with all work completed by Saturday 25 February 2017. Further details are noted below.

Scotland TranServ, which maintains almost 200 sign gantries on south west Scotland’s motorways and trunk roads has carried out the work to the structures over the last four months, which provide an important lane management facility and keep motorists up to date with real time traffic information.

The refurbished structures will provide a number of long term benefits including energy savings and helping to reduce the increasing demands of routine maintenance.

A76 works at Sanquhar

A programme of patching works on the A76 at Sanquhar, will commence on Sunday 22 January 2017.

Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the essential maintenance throughout the town in under 24 hours.

To protect the safety of our workforce and road users, a total closure of the A76 at the Tollbooth in Sanquhar will be in place continuously from 8.00am until 6.00pm with a local diversion in place. Works to the north and south of the Tollbooth will be managed by traffic light control to allow for local access.

Road users will travel northbound on the A702 from Carronbridge to Abington Services, along the B7078 to Ayr Road (North of Douglas) and onto the A70 to Cumnock before re-joining the A76. Southbound motorists will travel the same route in reverse.

“This essential maintenance scheme will be carried out to create a safer and smoother road surface on this section of the A76.

“We have carefully programmed the works over one day, when traffic flows are expected to be lighter, ensuring minimum disruption to road users.”

Winter resilience - south west trunk roads

“With a yellow warning in place for snow and high winds today (Wednesday) through to Friday evening, Scotland TranServ will be working around the clock with 22 spreaders and 7 patrol vehicles treating, ploughing and monitoring routes to keep south west Scotland on the move.

“We have also drafted in specialist drain clearing plant, ready to address any localised flooding issues and Trunk Roads Incident Support (TRISS) units will be patrolling major routes to remove debris from trunk roads and help stranded motorists get on their way.

“Although all routes are treated, we cannot guarantee they are free of snow and ice and we appeal to motorists to drive according to the weather conditions”.

Overnight work to continue on Charing Cross barrier improvements

The second phase of a £700k project to refurbish the central reserve barrier of the M8 at Charing Cross will start on Sunday 8 January and last for eight weeks.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the works between Junctions 17 and 19 of the M8 at the Mitchell Library.

Temporary overnight traffic management will be in place from 10.00pm on Sunday 8 January until 6:00am on Friday 3 March 2017. A full closure of the westbound carriageway and an eastbound offside lane closure will be in place Sunday to Thursday, for the next three weeks, between 10.00pm and 6.00am. The eastbound carriageway will then be closed with a westbound offside lane closure between 10.00pm and 6.00am for the following five weeks.

“This vital programme of works will ensure that the central reserve barrier is safe and fit for purpose.

“We have programmed the works carefully overnight when traffic flows are expected to be lighter however road users should follow the signed diversion route during the works.”

All vehicles travelling westbound will be taken off at Charing Cross, then along Newton Street and back onto the M8 next to the Hilton. All vehicles heading eastbound will be taken off at Bothwell Street, along Pitt Street, St Vincent Street and onto North Street before joining back onto M8 between Junctions 17 and 18.
