Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland continues to create a good first impression for visitors heading for Glasgow during this busy summer of Homecoming, the Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup.
With the eastbound section of the M8 motorway between Junction 31 (Bishopton) and Junction 30 (Erskine Bridge) reaching the end of its operational life, it is important that we now invest to improve the road surface ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Brendan O’Sullivan, Scotland TranServ’s Area Network Programme Manager said:
“While the forthcoming Commonwealth Games provides a very real deadline for us to carry out this work, the project is aimed at delivering long-term tangible benefits for commuters heading from Inverclyde and Renfrewshire to the city and north of the river via the Erskine bridge We improved the surface of the Whitecart Viaduct and now we are continuing that progress with this programme of work a few miles down the road.”
In order to carry out the work as quickly and safely as possible, while keeping disruption to a minimum it will be necessary to implement a contraflow system in this area. The contraflow will begin to be installed at midnight on Sunday 8th June and the removal will start at midnight on Friday 13th June, 2014.
Eastbound traffic will pass the site on one lane during the daytime and overnight off-peak periods. Two lanes in each direction will be available during daytime peak periods.
Mr O’Sullivan continued:
“We will continue to monitor traffic movement throughout this programme of work, in order to make any necessary alterations to improve the flow and subsequently reduce potential disruption. This is an important time for Glasgow and the surrounding area, and it is essential that we complete this work ahead of the Commonwealth Games, leaving the local network in prime condition.”
